101 Chapter 1 - Part 1

On September 19, 1940 - the second roundup of the day in Warsaw. There are few people still alive who saw me at 6:00 in the morning going alone and then standing on the corner of Avenue Army and FeliƄski among the men caught by the SS. Then we were loaded onto lorries and taken to the cavalry barracks. After writing down our information in a makeshift office and collecting sharp objects (under threat of being shot if later they found anything sharp on you) they locked us in the riding school, where we remained until September 20th.

During those two days some had already become acquainted with a rubber baton falling on their heads. However, it was within the acceptable treatment for people accustomed to such methods of maintaining law and order by enforcement officers. At that time, some families bought out their loved ones by paying huge sums to SS men. At night we all slept on the bare ground. The riding hall was lit by a huge reflector, standing at the entrance. At four sides were SS men with the machine guns.
